Özet

This paper makes a practical contribution to the growing efforts to rethink legal education in the age of generative AI. Drawing on direct experience from two distinct yet complementary courses delivered in the Spring 2023–24 semester, it explores the following: IT Law for computer engineering students, and AI and Law for law students. The author designed both courses from scratch, supported by a self-authored textbook, and implemented them through interactive lectures and assessment methods that captured student perceptions, ethical reasoning and legal-technical understanding.

This paper explores the pedagogical challenges and creative potential of teaching the legal, ethical and societal dimensions of AI to students from different academic backgrounds. It critically examines how equipping law students with technical insight and engineering students with legal awareness has become essential, not just valuable, in the context of rapidly evolving legal practice. The paper goes beyond theoretical recommendations by offering insights rooted in two semesters of interdisciplinary teaching. Importantly, this work exemplifies how individual academic effort can still meaningfully shape the future of legal education despite limited institutional or financial support.

While AI tools are increasingly praised for their productivity, this case study highlights the untapped potential of human initiative, especially when driven by purpose. The paper directly addresses the symposium's guiding question, 'How should we redesign?', by offering a concrete, tested model based on real-world educational practice.
