ABSTRACT
Gallbladder and bile duct cancers are among the cancers with the worst prognosis. Most of gallbladder cancers are diagnosed incidentally following laparoscopic cholecystectomy and life expectancy of whose are correlates with the stage of the disease. Radical cholecystectomy is mostly preferred in surgical treatment for both better staging and reducing the risk of recurrence. In advanced stagely tumors, bile duct resection with major liver resections may be required to obtain negative margins. Surgery still has an important place in the treatment of bile duct cancers as a potential curative treatment. However, most of the patients are diagnosed as either unresectable or metastatic disease. In addition, recurrence rates after complete resection are still highly. Decision and option of the treatment are determined by the patient's performance status, local extent of the tumor (vascular and/or parenchymal involvement) and status of the metastatic disease.
