Özet

Background: Preoperative anxiety is a common and multifactorial issue that negatively affects both physiological and psychological outcomes in surgical patients. Despite the proven benefits of non-pharmacological methods like Reiki in managing pain and anxiety, their effects during the perioperative period remain underexplored. Objectives: The objective is to assess the impact of Reiki on pain, anxiety, and hemodynamic parameters during the perioperative period. Method: This systematic review and meta-analysis adhered to PRISMA guidelines and was registered in PROSPERO (CRD42024600241). Five databases (MEDLINE, Academic Search Ultimate, Complementary Index, Supplemental Index, CINAHL Complete) were searched without time restrictions, including studies up to September 2024. A three-phase selection process was conducted using EndNote X8. Data extraction used a standardized nine-item form. Meta-analysis was performed using CMA version 3, with effect sizes calculated using Hedges' g for studies with compatible continuous data. Results: The study determined that Reiki had a significantly positive effect on pain up to 24 hours post-surgery and beyond, as well as on preoperative anxiety and postoperative diastolic blood pressure. Additionally, the findings indicated that Reiki exerted a moderate influence on postoperative systolic blood pressure, and demonstrated a low-level effect on the reduction of postoperative anxiety and heart rate. Conclussion: This meta-analysis provides strong evidence that Reiki therapy has beneficial effects on pain, anxiety, and hemodynamic parameters during the perioperative period. While previous individual studies have suggested these benefits, this study is the first to comprehensively evaluate the effects of Reiki specifically within the context of perioperative care. The findings support the integration of Reiki into holistic, evidence-based nursing practice.
