Video-reflected evaluation of humanistic nursing theory-based care given to women who had pregnancy termination: Action research

Abstract:
Objective: The aim of this study is to evaluate the outcomes of the care based on the Humanistic Nursing Theory given to the woman who had pregnancy termination due to fetal anomaly and the effectiveness of the video-reflection method. In addition to this purpose, it is aimed to explain the experiences of women regarding perinatal loss and nursing care in this process. Method: This study is a video-reflective participatory action research using only qualitative data. Criterion sampling method was used, and 22 women who had pregnancy termination due to fetal anomaly in the hospital where the study was conducted between September 1, 2019 and November 1, 2021 and agreed to participate in the study were included in the sampling. Nursing care based on Humanistic Nursing Theory was given to the participants and the effectiveness of it was evaluated by video-interview before discharge and reflection interview after discharge. Results: From the data obtained in this study, in three separate sections as "Observation Findings", "Pre-Discharge Findings" and "Post-Discharge Findings" 1-Reflections of Variables Related to the Participants and Pregnancy Termination Process, 2-Reflections of Humanistic Nursing Care Processes to Nurses, 3-Pregnancy Difficulties of Termination, 4-"I Couldn't Have Done Without You", 5-Recommendations Regarding the Pregnancy Termination Process, 6- Experience After Pregnancy Termination, 7- Views on Video-Reflection Method themes and 15 sub-themes were reached. Conclusion: According to the results of this study, it was seen that the care based on the Humanistic Nursing Theory given to women who had pregnancy termination due to fetal anomaly and experienced loss was effective and applicable. It can be suggested that nurses should be empowered in this area and the use of humanistic nursing approaches should be widespread in this type of individuals.
