Özet

The purpose of the present study is to investigate the role of the heart rate variability (HRV) parameters on the effects of ischaemic preconditioning (IPC) procedure on triathlon performance in athletes. A total of 24 athletes, 8 female and 16 male, having at least 3 years training and competition experience in triathlon were participated in this study. The mean age of the participants was 35.43 ± 1.84. In the study, all parameters were obtained after two weeks of rest, after sham and IPC. The IPC was applied bilaterally to the middle 1/3 of the thigh on the supine position, and the sphygmomanometer cuff was inflated 220 mmHg. IPC was applied 4 times in total; 5 minutes of ischemia followed by 5 minutes of reperfusion. In sham procedure, same protocol was applied using 20 mmHg pressure. Body composition, heart rate, blood pressure, rate of perceived exertion, state trait anxiety, respiratory frequency, SDNN, NN50, PNN50, RMSSD, VLF, LF, HF, LF / HF and power results were measured at rest, or following triathlon performance with or without sham and IPC procedures. The results were presented as mean ± standard deviation, and t test was used for statistical analysis between measurements. The results demonstrated that the totally triathlon time was prominently shortened after sham and IPC, and the triathlon performance after IPC was found to be statistically higher in a comparison with the sham procedure. On the other hand, it was found that only the heart rate among all HRV parameters was lower following IPC procedure in a comparison with the sham application after triathlon performance. There were no differences between sham and IPC in other parameters. In conclusion, the results of this study suggest that the IPC significantly improved performance in the triathletes, possibly by an alteration in the heart rate afterexercise.
