Özet

In this study, the place and importance of History of Turkish Education Course, included in the curriculum with the purpose of increasing the number of courses on general knowledge, has been investigated through a questionnaire designed to construct the course content. The primary goal of the study was to collect students' knowledge of and opinions on the content of the course so that a sound syllabus can be prepared. The data have been collected from B.A. students (n=100) studying at Foreign Language Education Department, Divisions of German and English Language Teaching. The questionnaire used for the study is composed of 15 Likert type items, and the collected data have been analyzed via SPSS 11.0. The Cronbach Alpha value of the instrument was found to be 0.83. According to the findings of the study, the students find their knowledge of history of Turkish education rather insufficient, but believe in the necessity of such a course in the curriculum while asking for a student-centered syllabus to be followed in the delivery of the course.
