Molecular characterization of locally grown 'Melli' fig (Ficus carica L.) clones, comparison with common cultivars

All rights reserved.The fig (Ficus carica L.) originated in western Asia and distributed from Persia, Asia Minor, and Syria throughout the Mediterranean area and to America. Anatolia is considered within the areas accepted as origin of cultivated fig. 'Melli' fig, grown locally only in Bucak, Burdur province, has a very attractive taste, smell and aroma attributes. Fruits of this genotype are suitable for fresh consumption and also drying in natural conditions under direct sunlight without any deterioration in the fruit quality. In this study, molecular characterization of 'Melli' clones was performed along with the reference cultivars ('Bursa Siyahi' and 'Sarilop') using SSR and SRAP primers and a comparison was made between the TSS content of fresh and dried fruits of 'Melli' clones and most popular fresh fig cultivar 'Bursa Siyahi' and dried cultivar 'Sarilop'.
