Accurate measurement of soil water content is critical to establishing water balance in irrigation related studies. Although the gravimetric method yielded the most accurate results in determining the soil water content, different sensors depending on the soil dielectric constant were developed due to the time consuming and high workload. However, these devices developed are significantly affected both from the soil texture and from soil salinity. For this reason, it is necessary to establish calibration curves depending on the different soil texture and salinity before using the related devices. The purpose of this study is to determine the calibration curves of 10HS soil moisture sensor under laboratory conditions using water with five different electrical conductivities 0.7 (tap water, control), 1.5, 3.0, 6.0 and 12 dS / m and two different soil types, sand and loam. For this purpose, samples of sandy and loamy soil sieved from a 2 mm sieve were placed in a 1.5 liter pot to provide natural bulk density and were saturated with water having different electrical conductivity for 30 days. The pots were weighed daily from saturated point until they reached the wilting point, and at the same time the moisture content of the soil and water was measured in millivolts. Then, regression equations in polynomial form are determined by using the obtained data. As a result of the research, it has been determined that the calibration coefficients proposed by the company that
produces the soil moisture sensor are significantly different from the coefficients obtained in this study and that the electrical conductivity of the water used affects the calibration curves. It has been proposed to calibrate locally so that the soil moisture meters developed due to the soil dielectric constant can accurately measure the soil water content.
