LIGHT IN SCULPTURE, SCULPTURE IN LIGHT

ÖZ

Sanatın ayrılmaz parçalarından birisi ışıktır. Işık ve ışık olgusu yaşamsal, bilimsel ve sanatsal yönü ile her zaman hayatın dinamizmine göndermelerde bulunur. Işık sanatta düşünsel ve biçimsel yönü ile etkin bir değerdir. Gerek doğu gerekse batı kültürlerinde tanrısallığı, iyi olanı, bilgiyi, aklı ve aydınlanmayı simgeler. Geçmişten bugüne dek ışık sanatta kavramsal ve biçimsel yönü ile yer alır. Günümüz sanatında da kendisine yeni ifade biçimleri bulur. Çünkü bilim ve teknolojinin gelişimi ile birlikte sanatçıların yaşadıkları çağ ile hesaplaşmaları gereğinden doğan bir cevap olarak çalışmalarının özünü oluşturur. Böylece ışık ait olduğu zaman ve mekân aralığında kaçınılmaz değişimin ve gerçekliğin tanığı olur.

Işığa heykel sanatı açısından bakarak, sanatçıların doğal ışık ve yapay ışık ile olan diyaloğunun, biçimi ortaya çıkaran ışık ile sonrasında kendisi sanat yapıtı olan ışık bağlamında irdelenmeye çalışılacaktır. Öncesinde bir araç, sonrasında araç-değer, günümüz sanatında ise başlı başına bir değerdir. Doğal ışık ile yapay ışık arasında var olan yeni bir gerçekliktir. Bu gerçeklik sanat yoluyla ışığın estetiğini oluşturarak bugün üçüncü ışık kavramını karşılayarak sanatın yeni olasılıklara evrilişini açıklar. Işığı heykel sanatı bağlamında düşünen sanatçılar ile yapıtları üzerinden inceleme ve açıklama yapmaya çalışarak sonuca yer verilecektir.

ABSTRACT

The Light is one of the indispensable elements of the art. The phenomenon of light always refers to the dynamism of life with its vital, scientific and artistic aspects. Light is an operative value with its intellectual and formal aspects in art. It symbolizes divinity, good, knowledge, intelligence and enlightenment in both eastern and western cultures. From past to present, light takes place in art with its conceptual and formal aspects. Moreover, it finds new forms of expression in contemporary art. Through the development of science and technology, the light becomes the core of the products which arises from the struggles of the artists with the era they live. Thus, the light becomes the witness of the inevitable change and reality in the space and time interval.

When the light is examined in terms of sculpture, it can be considered as the dialogue of the artists with natural and artificial light as well as the light that reveals the form and the light which itself is a work of art. Once the light was considered as an instrument, later as an agent and today it is regarded as a value on its own. The light is a new reality that exists between natural and artificial light. This reality creates the aesthetics of light and corresponds to the recent concept of the third light which describes the evolution of art to new possibilities. The present study intends to probe the artists, who used the light in the art of sculpture, as well as examine and explain the use of light in their works
