The ultimate goal/development objective of the project is to promote socially inclusive development,
gender equality and women’s empowerment, in accordance with SDG 5, the Convention on the Elimination
of all Forms of Discrimination against Women, and the Beijing Platform of Action.
The immediate objectives of the project are threefold: (a) to promote the participation of stakeholders in
SADC, Southeast Asia and the Caribbean in capacity-building activities on trade and gender through the
development of new and region-specific content; (b) to strengthen teaching and research capacities on trade and gender of academics in the three selected regions; and (b) to enhance the capacity of stakeholders in
the three selected regions to mainstream gender into trade policy.
