Prof. ORHAN ÖZÇATALBAŞ

Biography

Orhan ÖZÇATALBAŞ is a faculty member at Akdeniz University, Faculty of Agriculture, Department of Agricultural Economics. After graduating from Çukurova University Faculty of Agriculture, he completed his master's degree and doctorate at the Institute of Science. He worked as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Agricultural Economics at the same university between 1995-1998. In 1998, he moved to Antalya Akdeniz University as an assistant professor and was appointed professor in 2011. Dr. Özçatalbaş concentrated on his studies in the fields of agricultural economics, agricultural policy and extension during his master's and doctoral studies. As research areas; agricultural economics, rural development and extension, agricultural policy, information systems and informatics, rural tourism and rural energy and policies. For his postdoc study, he studied at the Institute of Horticultural Economics (Institut für Gartenbau ökonomie) at Hannover Leibniz University in 1999-2000. He worked on "Information System". He served as a visiting scientist for research studies at the same institute several times between 2000 and 2004. He has more than 100 articles in national and international journals, more than 7 book chapters, 2 published books (Agricultural Publishing and Communication / Computers for Students) and the editor-in-chief of and "Sustainable Rural Development Perspective and Global Challenges" (https://www.intechopen.com/books/11253), published in 2023. Dr. Özçatalbaş is a member of the Turkish Agricultural Economics Association, the Chamber of Agricultural Engineers, the Scientific Board Member of the Turkey Foundation for Combating Erosion, Afforestation and Protection of Natural Assets, and a member of non-governmental organizations working in some other professional fields. Dr. Özçatalbaş is also the editor of the International Journal of Rural Tourism and Development (IRTAD) (http://www.turizmvekalkinma.org/). In 2021, he was awarded by the Turkish Nobel Science and Research Center Association in the field of Agricultural Economics, rural development and Dr. Özçatalbaş, who was deemed worthy of the "Scientist of the Year" award in the field of tourism, currently serves as the director of the Akdeniz University Institute of Science and Technology.
