Abstract:
The cave pictures found in Ankara, district of Güdül, near the village of Salihler, are the concrete documents reflecting on modern times the civilization established by Turks in the heart of Anatolia, and their mentality and lifestyle approximately 5000 years ago. As such, they are cogent evidence contributing to our understanding of the sense of art, and the social, religious and cultural values of Proto Turks. In this dissertation and project study as carried out, the descriptions carved on the rock surfaces found in Ankara, district of Güdül, were attempted to be presented by way of illustrations by scrutinizing their artistic styles and elements prevailing during the period of their creation. Further, the descriptions were reinterpreted for the promotion of the country by adhering to the graphical artistic elements in a digital environment. In the first part of the study, a brief history is presented and mention is made of the importance of Güdül. Further, short information is provided as to in which areas and by who settlements were established, and which civilizations were created in this region from prehistoric periods down to the modern times, as well as on the works of art created by such civilizations. In the second part, the Turkish cave pictures of the early period were treated in general, and the appearance of Turkish culture and art in prehistoric period and the steppe culture as parallel to this were mentioned. Furthermore, it was attempted to put forth, by way of a general narrative, where the Turkish cave pictures as drawn during the Early periods existed and the respective ranges, and an outline was given regarding the cave pictures found in the district of Güdül. In the third part of the study, general information was provided regarding the animal depictions on cave pictures, religious scenes, hunting and battle scenes, and the cave picture depictions in the village of Salihler within the district of Güdül were attempted to be analyzed in detail as to the artistic elements and contents. In the fourth, and final, part, tourism sector designs of the cave pictures, of which analyses were carried out, for the promotion of the country were arranged and studied by way of graphical design in digital environment. The most commonly observed animal depictions in the district of Güdül were, respectively, horse depictions, mountain goat, deer and wolf depictions.
